Langhorne Creek

History

The Langhorne Creek region of South Australia is something of an unsung hero. Founded in the 1840's by a cattle drover called Alfred Langhorne, the area is situated on a broad flood plain between the Bremer and Angas rivers.

In the 1860's, having recognised the potential of the area, Frank Potts planted the first grapes and established the first winery, Bleasdale. Though those vines are now gone, there are vines dating back 115 years, reinforcing the historic place that Langhorne has in the history of Australian wine.

Sites

As one would presume from a flood plain, this is a flat area with subtle differences between sites. The most important aspect of quality here is yield. A reliable area, vineyards can be set up to produce all quality levels so our job is to work with dedicated growers who understand the rewards of careful, well balanced viticulture.

Wines

We love the best wines from Langhorne - they have a wonderfully dense, plush palate with an almost savoury edge. We liken the Langhorne effect to adding salt to chocolate or caramel - it seems unlikely but turns out to be delicious!
